What does each phase of the Moon ask of you?
New Moon
The New Moon is the start of the cycle: the Moon sits between the Earth and the Sun and cannot be seen in the sky. In tradition, it is the moment to choose what you want to grow over the coming weeks, with no rush to show results. Write down an intention, tidy a corner of the house, start slowly.
Waxing Crescent
In the Waxing Crescent the first sliver of light appears in the early evening. It is the phase of first steps: what you decided at the New Moon starts to take shape, still fragile. It asks for patience with what is small and consistency in what you have started.
First Quarter
At the First Quarter half of the Moon is lit, on the right-hand side. It is a phase of effort and decisions: the first obstacles to what you started appear, and this is where you choose to keep going or change course.
Waxing Gibbous
In the Waxing Gibbous the Moon is almost full. It is time to fine-tune: review what you have built, adjust the details, get ready for the moment when everything is in plain view. Energy rises, and it is best not to spend it on everything at once.
Full Moon
The Full Moon is the high point of the cycle: the Moon is opposite the Sun and appears whole. It brings clarity and emotions close to the surface. In tradition, it is time to harvest, to recognise how far you have come and to see what was hidden.
Waning Gibbous
In the Waning Gibbous the light starts to fade. After the peak, it is the phase for giving thanks, sharing what you have learned and taking in what the Full Moon showed. A good time for honest conversations and for giving rather than asking.
Last Quarter
At the Last Quarter half of the Moon is visible again, now on the left-hand side, before dawn. It is the phase for letting go: habits, things and commitments that no longer serve you. Clearing out and simplifying prepares the ground for the next cycle.
Waning Crescent
In the Waning Crescent only a sliver of light is left before sunrise. It is the end of the cycle, a time for rest and for turning inward. It asks for a lighter schedule and more quiet, before the New Moon opens the way again.
